Advanced Cardiac Life Support
American Heart Association’s (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care. This course builds on the foundation of lifesaving Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR.
This advanced course highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS).
The mission of PHTLS is to promote excellence in trauma patient management by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care. PHTLS is developed by National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons’ Committee on Trauma. The Committee provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program.
PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The program is based on a philosophy stressing the treatment of the multi-system trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the foundation for providing quality care. It is based on the belief that, given a good fund of knowledge and key principles, EMS practitioners are capable of making reasoned decisions regarding patient care. The course utilizes the internationally recognized PHTLS textbook and covers the following topics:
PHTLS is the global gold standard in prehospital trauma education and is taught in 64 countries. PHTLS is appropriate for EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians, and other prehospital providers. PHTLS is accredited by CAPCE and recognized by NREMT.
The BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.
This training has been developed for personnel operating in non-permissive environments. The course module is 8 days with instruction led training. It is underwritten by the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh. The module can be adapted to client specifics. The course deals with all aspects of motor vehicle accidents to ballistics and tropical illness. It teaches invasive procedures such as intravenous therapy and the use of I-gel supraglottic devices and the use of intraosseous devices. The course validity is 3 years from the date of certification.
This training has been developed for personnel deployed to a non-permissive environment. The course teaches self-reliance and improvised techniques in dealing with everyday emergencies. This is an 8 hour classroom-based course, and does not include any invasive techniques.
