Our Sint Maarten team is giving back to the community in a unique way.
AMI clinicians have been privileged to bond with the people of Sint Maarten since April 2020, as they provide ICU care at the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC). When a large wave of the Delta variant hit the island in November 2021, family members had to remain outside of the hospital to stay safe. Andrew Harrold, AMI’s Deputy Team Lead, came up with the idea to build a gazebo offering shade from the strong sun and inclement weather so patients’ families and loved ones could be nearby to visit with the medical staff.
Andy took it upon himself to purchase all the necessary lumber and supplies, “It was a great team-building experience. Staff members eagerly offered help and learned how to use the tools,” he shared.
Andy and AMI ICU nurse, Kara Belarmino personalized the gazebo by painting the national flags representing each team member historically on the project and AMI staff signed their names by their flag on posts supporting the canopy.
AMI staff build strong relationships with patients and desire to integrate into the communities where we work. This speaks to who we are as a company. The gazebo symbolizes our strength, our bond, our commitment to the people we call family, and the long-lasting connection we have with one another.
