On January 3rd, the AMI leadership team in Sint Maarten received guidance from corporate headquarters to support an urgent request from the Netherlands Ministry of Health to deploy four Registered Nurses and the Deputy Team Leader to Sint Eustatius (Statia) to provide assistance to the local Department of Health in filling various positions. The request is in response to the surging number of local nationals and healthcare workers working in various roles on the island who are COVID-19 positive.
Without hesitation, the team mobilized and departed to Statia on January 4th. Upon arrival, the team was kindly welcomed by the local Department of Health and given a tour of the facilities and roles we would be playing to assist the island.
“Exemplifying expertise and flexibility, the AMI team is on call for Medevac missions, caring for elderly COVID-19 positive patients in the Auxiliary Elderly care facility, filling in for any and all isolated local nurses in the hospital, doing ambulance runs and district nurses’ house calls to the homes of known positive local nationals, assisting the Department of Health in vaccinations, and COVID-19 testing of the local population,” shared Dr. Thomas Crabtree, AMI Chief Medical Officer.
