In April 2020, the first group of AMI contracted physicians and nurses arrived on Aruba in direct support of the COVID-19 response efforts at the Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital. Over the next 20 months, while working with local nurses and physicians, Team AMI Aruba witnessed four COVID spikes and responded appropriately based on patient acuity and census. A total of 50 nurses, 12 physicians, and two team leads were on duty during the highest COVID-19 spike.
Currently, the team consists of eight nurses, one physician, and one team lead. Deputy Head of the PMO Clare Simmons shared, “When the team is not working, they are balancing stress levels with exercise, volunteering with a homeless shelter or an animal rescue, cooking and eating a team meal together, or witnessing stunning sunsets on the One Happy Island.”
The team has collectively represented the United States, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Czech Republic, Philippines, Argentina, England, Scotland, Ireland, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, Papua New Guinea, Germany, Serbia, Pakistan, St Kitts, Nairobi, and Malawi.
